Fame or Flame is a free online motorbike game, played top-down in your browser. You are contestant 13 in a post-apocalyptic arena show, and the only way out of each arena is a door the stars hold open. Slide, skim saw blades and set off barrels: the crowd's excitement multiplies every star you grab.

A saw blade kills at a touch, and riding through the dashed ring round it without touching it is a skim the crowd loves. The order you take the stars in decides which gaps have a saw to skim, mud to slide through and a ramp to fly off.

The bank
Take the stars in any order. The one you ride towards loses value every second, and the crowd's multiplier only turns into fame when you grab it. The first star opens the exit, and every star after it holds the door open.
Chain boom! +0.55×
Hit a barrel and get clear of its ring before it blows. It lights the next one, and every blast down a chain pays a tenth more than the one before, up to +5× a gap. Inside the ring when it goes, you go with it.
Rival wrecked! +7×
Rival riders race you for the stars, and a star they snatch is fame you never bank. Every bike carries three rockets: wreck a rival and the crowd pays a bounty, plus the fame it stole.
Burning oil
A blast sets an oil slick alight and the flames run across it. Touch them and you are torched; light the oil under a rival and it burns instead.

An arena opens only to a rider the audience wants to see. Your fame is your best escape from every arena added up, and a better escape is how you earn the next door.
The crowd
The fan in the score bar tells you how the stands feel. Every bit of style raises the multiplier between two stars; grabbing the next star, or riding out, cashes it into fame. A crash and the crowd groans.

A crash costs the multiplier and a moment. A working blade, a rocket or burning oil costs the run, and the show makes sure everyone sees it. Then one key rides it again.
A working saw blade cuts the bike in two along the line it swept.
One touch of a blade ends the run. Ride through the dashed ring around it instead: that is a skim, and it pays +0.5×.
A rival's rocket bursts on you, and bike and rider go in pieces.
A rocket's blast got you. A rival takes aim for 0.5 seconds first, a red line from its nose: turn out of it. Fire your own from further off than its 2.5 m blast.
A blast sets oil alight. Touch the flames and the bike careers on ablaze until the tank goes up.
A blast set the oil on fire and the flames spread across it. Stay off the burning part until it has burnt away, 8 seconds later.
Each death filmed in the game, as the show airs it, with the tip the show's telestrator writes on the frame.
The riding keys and buttons can be changed under Controls in the game; Esc and Start always pause.
On a phone: Riding needs a keyboard or a controller. A phone or tablet with one paired plays turned sideways.

The show
What is left of civilisation watches deadly challenges in arenas for fun, and you are trapped in the show. Escape an arena and the next one opens, once the crowd wants to see you there. A host who only wants everyone happy, a family cheering at home, rivals with rockets, and one way out: escape them all.
