HUNGRY HUNGRY SNAKE
Every bite makes you longer.
smallest first β each rung unlocks at a length
A / βD / β
Hold to steer
You never stop. Let go and you coast straight on. Edges wrap around.
Aim your mouth
Only prey inside your forward mouth opening is a bite. Brushing past does nothing.
Escpauses
Four ways to die
Your own body, an animal still too big for you, a rock, or a pond.
One way to finish
Catch your own tail tip in your mouth from length 7 and the score doubles β and the hunt is over.
Field notes
Keep moving and steer by holding left or right. Only prey inside your forward mouth opening counts as a bite. The longer you survive, the wider that opening gets and the larger your next safe meal can be.
Hold A / β to turn left Β· D / β to turn right Β· Esc to pause.
Seeds at length 3 Β· worms at 5 Β· sparrows at 6 Β· mice at 8 Β· goats at 12 Β· elephants at 17.
Every bite scores, and only bites score β there are no points for staying alive. The ladder doubles: a seed is 1 point and every rung above it is worth two of the rung below, so an elephant is 32 seeds. The three recognised hunts multiply that bite rather than adding to it β Full Mouth for the largest meal you can take doubles it, Tight Bite for eating close to your own body doubles it again, and each rung of a Hungry Chain adds half again. Edges wrap. Your own body does not. Touching a locked animal ends the run.
Green ring: eat it. Coral ring: it eats you. Your first meals are ringed in green dashes so you can find them; that ring fades after your first bite and is gone after your second. The coral dashes stay, on every animal still too big for you.
Rocks and ponds are walls. 3 rocks and 2 ponds per field, in the same places for everyone playing that hunt.
The elephant is not the end. Eat one and the field speeds up and grows up around you. Only two things finish a hunt: the two-minute clock running out, and taking your own tail.
You start on an open road. For the first five seconds nothing too big to eat is in the lane you begin travelling down β the animals keep off it, the way they keep off a boulder β so those seconds are yours to find a seed in. Everything on the field is still lethal from the very first step; the road is clear, not safe.
Eat your own tail and the score doubles. Take the very tip of your tail inside your forward mouth β not a graze along your side, which is the same crash it has always been β and the hunt ends there and then at 2Γ the points. It needs a body of at least length 7: below that your turning circle is wider than you are long, so the tail is out of reach however you steer. The tail runs away from you at exactly your own speed, so you cannot chase it: turn back alongside your own trail and meet it coming the other way. Every step you spend setting it up is a step off that clock.
